School holiday activities.
Fun activities to enjoy with your family.
Planning activities with your kids during the school holidays in your local area is a breeze when you know where to go and what to do. Just a short drive from home, Ipswich boasts plenty of fun and family-friendly attractions ready for exploration. Below, you'll find a list of exciting places to visit with your loved ones for a fantastic day out during the break.
Farm fun
Visit Penny, farmer Dave, and their cuddly animals at Haigslea Ewe Nique Hobby Farm.
This is a family-owned and operated farm that opens its door to families to experience the laid-back country lifestyle. Entry only costs $5 and includes a bucket of animal feed 🦙. Call ahead to book as they like to keep numbers restricted, so each person gets quality time with the animals without crowds. Depending on the season you may get to pat and cuddle new baby goats and get up close and personal with sheep, alpacas, chickens, and geese.
Location: 187 Missigs Road, Haigslea 4306. Call to book 0410 487 263.
Ipswich Nature Centre | Queens Park, Ipswich
The Ipswich Nature Centre truly is a hidden treasure in the centre of Ipswich, located within the magnificent Queens Park. Entry is free and you will all enjoy seeing different types of native animals including emus, wallabies, quolls and the endangered Bilby. They also have a variety of farm animals and a wonderful walk-through bird aviary.
Queens Park, Ipswich
Queens Park features the Ipswich Nature Centre, but if you ask me, the hero is the playground. There’s water play, flying foxes, and a state-of-the-art playground, perfect for children of all ages. Plus, there are numerous shady trees to relax under and escape the warm Autumn sun. It truly is a fantastic day out for families🌳
Robelle Domain, Springfield
Robelle Domain stands out as one of the largest and most fantastic parks in the Ipswich area. Covered with its stunning Ghost Gums, this parkland is full of impressive attractions, with none quite as remarkable as its incredible water play area. With water cascades, waterfalls, jet sprays, and a huge 7000-litre tipping water bucket, it's no wonder this Ipswich Water Park is a top choice for kids.
Pattern Play
A great indoor activity to do these holidays is to discover the magic of shape and design with Pattern Play at the Ipswich Art Gallery. Through engaging hands-on activities, Pattern Play offers a fun-filled exploration of pattern-making, fostering artistic expression and cognitive skills for all ages.
Be inspired by contemporary artworks, and experiment with repetition and symmetry to create your own. Pattern Play inspires a love for art, one delightful pattern at a time!
At the gallery until April 14 (except Good Friday), open from 10am to 5pm daily.
Orion Lagoon
Relax and soak up the warm Autumn days at this feature-packed lagoon which is conveniently located in Springfield. It is one of the largest public lagoons in the Southern Hemisphere and the perfect destination for parents seeking a free day out with their kids.
This popular lagoon features a range of interconnected pools, including a 600mm deep sculpture pool, a 50m lap swimming area, beach entry, and a pool depth of up to 1.5m. A long shallow section of the lagoon is designed with toddlers and small children in mind.
With stepping stones, wading areas, water squirts, and a shallow depth of 300mm, the lagoon is the perfect way to cool down and enjoy free water play on warmer Autumn days. Lifeguards supervise Orion Lagoon daily during the opening hours, providing a safe and fun family day out.
We hope you enjoy some fun-filled school holiday activities with your family 😀
